Lore & Background

Dan Heng is the reincarnation of Dan Feng, the Vidyadhara High Elder of the Xianzhou Luofu who once held the title Imbibitor Lunae. Centuries prior to the game's events, during the 'Imbibitor Lunae Rebellion,' Dan Feng attempted to free his people from their rebirth cycle and revive a fallen warrior by destroying the Ambrosial Arbor with the help of Yingxing (now Blade). This plan backfired, creating a draconic abomination that was eventually slain. Dan Feng was executed for his crimes, and his reincarnation Dan Heng was born without horns and tail as part of the punishment, then exiled from the Xianzhou Alliance. After wandering the cosmos, he was taken in by the Astral Express crew. In the story 'The Dragon Returns Home,' Dan Heng seeks out Bailu to repair the Arbor's seal, finally understanding his past life before declining Jing Yuan's offer to stay on Luofu.

In Their Own Story

When Kafka urged the Express to stop at Xianzhou Luofu to resolve a Stellaron crisis, Dan Heng initially refused due to his history. Upon learning Blade was present, he secretly traveled alone. There, he met Sushang and Luocha before following visions from his past life to Scalegorge Waterscape. Facing Blade, who waited for him, Dan Heng was pierced through the chest in battle, forcing him to awaken as Imbibitor Lunae while near death. Joined by Yanqing and later Jing Yuan, he helped defeat Phantylia at the roots of the Ambrosial Arbor. Though recovering, he declined to go to Penacony, choosing instead to stay on the train. Later, with March 7th unconscious, he and the Trailblazer entered Amphoreus to save the planet from Zandar, rescuing the Trailblazer from Evernight before confronting her alter ego.

Reader's Guide

Dan Heng has three playable forms: a free 4-star Wind-type Hunt character released in version 1.0; Dan Heng • Imbibitor Lunae, a limited 5-star Imaginary Destruction character released in version 1.3; and Dan Heng • Permansor Terrae, a free 5-star Physical Preservation character released in version 3.6 on October 15, 2025. The base Dan Heng deals Wind damage with Basic Attacks and Skills that hit single targets, while his Ultimate delivers a powerful single hit. Imbibitor Lunae enhances his Basic Attack up to three times via Skill for increased Imaginary damage against multiple enemies, with an Ultimate hitting a target and adjacent foes. Permansor Terrae designates a 'Bondmate' ally, shielding all allies with stackable Physical Protection; his Ultimate deals Physical Damage and adds another stackable shield.

• The character song 'Samudrartha,' performed by Yider, draws on themes of water and transformation, but does not depict a canon event of Dan Heng splitting the sea to reveal his High Elder power.
• Dan Heng is one of several characters with multiple playable versions in Honkai: Star Rail, alongside the Trailblazer.
• The title 'Samudrartha' is inspired by the traditional Chinese ci poetic tune pattern 'Shui Long Yin' (Water Dragon Chant).
